GUIDED VISUALIZATIONS
Preliminary Considerations/Instructions: Guided visualizations (as another way to meditate) is simply letting your mind create images and become aware of sensations and emotions that arise as result of those images. The creation of images may not be easy for some of us. No problem, you can also focus on the thoughts that come to your mind, or body sensations you experience. In the visualizations of the following links, you will bring yourself to a state of relaxation and calm, which are good conditions to start visualizing.
In principle, the idea is that you visualize the place that is being suggested, where you can feel at ease being your truest self. Notice the sensations that your body experience. Focus your attention on this. Visualization has proven to be of great use when you want to re-progran or pre-program how you want to be or do in a situation in the present or in the future (i.e. making a presentation in public, a meeting with senior leadership, a job interview, a difficult conversation, or running a marathon).
Now relax and enjoy!! Start progressively with one guided visualization a day or as often as you are comfortable with. When you start ripping the benefits of it, you will start making them more often to continue enjoying its benefits. I invite you to dare to try them. To use them for a situation you will have in the near future and check how the visualization helped. And feel free to share the experience with me!
Note: Be patient. It is usual to get distracted during the initial attempts to visualize. When you caught yourself distracted, do not judge or criticize yourself for having those thoughts or ideas. Just notice those thoughts and let them go gently bringing your awareness back to the guided visualization. Good news: Catching yourself with thoughts you do not want is already one of the first benefits of visualization: consciously observe your thoughts. With practice, the conscious awareness visualization creates will become unconscious and at that time you will start living mindfully by default . Bear in mind that Visualization proficiency requires years of practice, as we need to learn a new way to coexist with our thoughts given that we are used to have thousands of thoughts per day reacting to our busy daily life. But please do not let this to discourage you as it is highly likely that you will start ripping benefits from it after a few sessions. Now, let go of any preconceived idea you may have and enjoy the experience!
